Two people from Fohnsdorf are making it easy for smartphone owners to enrich their surroundings with virtual objects. This technology is called “augmented reality” (AR). Simply click on a link or QR code, pan into the room with the cell phone camera and a virtual 3D model of the desired seating group can be placed in the room. The technology works not only with furniture, but with all objects. How do the sunglasses, shoes or earrings I found on the Internet fit me? How does the hot tub look on my patio? Everything can be tried on and viewed online. Online retailers hope that AR will not only boost sales, but also reduce return rates.
