Using augmented reality for carpets to place products at home before purchase

Amethyst Home is a leading supplier of exclusive home textiles and furniture. They commissioned us, Mazing, to create 500 rug variations in different colors and sizes. The aim was to offer customers an immersive shopping experience and to make the purchase decision easier by using modern technology. The challenge was to present a large variety of carpets, differing in material, design and size, in a realistic and appealing way. In addition, an AR function for carpets (Web AR) was to be integrated to enable customers to virtually try out the carpets in their own homes. We created detailed 3D models of 500 carpets that allowed customers to view the products in different environments and lighting conditions. A particular highlight was the integration of the AR function on the Amethyst Home website. This function was enthusiastically accepted and used by customers. This case study shows how customers react to such an innovation, what results it has brought for Amethyst Home and what the outlook is for the future.

Results and outlook

  • Expanding the use of Mazing’s platform: As the carpet 3D models were very successful, Amethyst Home commissioned us in a second step to turn their furniture collections into 3D models as well. In particular, this involved pieces from Ethnicraft and Fourhands, which were also accessible via the AR function. The highly detailed renderings allowed customers to view the furniture from different perspectives and make their purchase decision with more confidence.
  • Customer experience and feedback: The response from customers was extremely positive. One customer wrote enthusiastically to Amethyst Home that he thought the AR function was extremely cool and that it had helped him to make the right decision. This feedback was also reflected in the sales figures: using the AR function increased the conversion rate on the website.
  • Results: Thanks to the virtual product visualization, Amethyst Home was not only able to strengthen customer loyalty, but also significantly increase sales figures. The realistic 3D models and innovative use of AR contributed significantly to modernizing the company’s online presence and offering customers a unique shopping experience.
  • Outlook: Based on the success of Mazing’s software, Amethyst Home plans to further expand its range of virtual products and focus even more on AR technology in the future.
